Stich’n Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker

The internet connection in this house is terrible nowadays. I feel like I’ve been transported back in time to some kind of computer stone age. So there has not been much surfing around in blogland. The advantage is that I’ve spent my time reading books instead. The book Stitch’n Bitch: The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller has been a very nice surprise. She writes really well! So well that I’ve even read the sections that tell me that I need a pair of scissors and measuring tape (in other words, this is a book that start with the basics). I taught myself to crochet 1,5 years ago by the help of books. It’s been very useful to read Stoller’s crocheting instructions now. Her instructions are much more thorough than they are in other books I’ve read, and the illustrations are so good that they’re actually fully understandable. So some of my crochet misunderstandings are now corrected, and I’ve learned several new things as well. But as Stoller writes in her book about making or not making mistakes; there are no crochet police around. I like that way of thinking. She draws some crochet historic lines and she writes enthusiastically about the advantages of crocheting. She writes about different types of yarns, equipment, different stitches, clever tricks, how to read patterns, and more. A really recommendable book.

I have to say thank you for your nice words regarding my partner and his chainsaw. I can report that after some days with quite a bit of pain, he is now healing very well. But I tell you, there will be no more use of the chainsaw until he’s got some proper safety equipment :-)

Today I’ve tried nunofelting for the first time. It’s been a lot of trial and error, but I’ve learnt something (at least I think so). I’ll come back to that if it turns out somewhat functional (hopefully there are no nunofelting police around either :-)

Happy Hooker is my main source for crochet info as I finally got past single crochet and figured out crochet pattern language. Nunofelting? Is that needle felting? I'm so curious....

What is nunofelting?

Here's a definition a found somewhere: Nunofelting is felting on fabrics. Using silk or cotton fabric, and then felt wool onto it. A kind of a fusion between the wool and the fabric.
The process of combining these fibres into one piece of fabric involves rolling the fibres together and then banging them while they're wet to form the final product.

I'll try to come up with some links when my internet connection is working again :-)

That sounds pretty interesting. I will watch for the links. Thanks.
